Lifting Young Voices
Teaching singing in schools
This project has two elements. The first is to offer high-quality singing lessons to local state primary schools, many of whom report difficulties in delivering the music curriculum due to a lack of expert teaching.
By making available our highly trained music staff at minimal cost, we are demonstrating our significant service to our community. Furthermore, it provides an opportunity to share the joy of sacred music with a generation who have very little exposure to the riches of this tradition.
Choral and organ scholarships
We have a successful track record of producing young singers who go on to take up choral and organ places at university or college.
To support this we offer choral and organ scholarships to those looking to enlarge their choral repertoire or significantly improve their sight reading skills.
To support the young people these are paid positions.
Please contact the Director of Music here for more information or an audition.
The Lifting Young Voices project is funded by the Diocese of Southwark, Cathedral Music Trust, The Ouseley Trust and the PCC of All Saints Church.
A Junior Choir
The second element is to establish a new junior choir at All Saints.
This provides a pathway for children who have enjoyed the singing lessons in school to join in with the choral tradition at All Saints.
A weekly choir practice will offer a training programme that will prepare children to join our main choir that sing three services a week. The junior choir are also given opportunities to sing in some of our main services.
Lifting Young Voices provides children from all backgrounds with a free first-class musical education; provides an understanding of the church; ensures the future health of our choir; and brings new families into church.
